Mapeamento Geomorfológico do Estado de Minas Gerais: uma proposta com base na morfologia

Abstract

The cartographic representation of the relief demands a classification approach that encompasses both the typologies of the landforms, as well as their association with factors such as the rock lithostructure, the shaping processes involved as well as their spatial distribution, depending necessarily on the geographic scale adopted. This article proposes a methodology for classifying Relief Forms applied to the state of Minas Gerais, on a scale of 1: 1,000,000, composed of 2 taxonomic levels: morphoaltimetric and morphostructural, whose application resulted in the identification of 74 mapped Geomorphological Units, using digital products such as MDE, geological maps, hydrographic network and semi-automatic techniques of interpretation and classification in a GIS environment. The relief of Minas Gerais is a complex one, formed by a wide variety of morphologies with different genesis and dimensions. The mapping result shows in terms of area the predominance of the Plateau System, followed by the Relative Depression System, Mountains, and Sierras System, with the Plains System being the one with the lowest territorial occupation.
